This May sees us publishing three timely and important books, each engaging with questions many Christians and church leaders are already wrestling with: leadership, integrity and rest.
Different in focus and style, our new releases this month all share a desire to help readers think more deeply about what faithful Christian living looks like today.
The Glorious Risk: Freeing the church from managerialism and the martyr complex
by Chloe Lynch
In The Glorious Risk, Chloe Lynch takes an honest look at the broken stories shaping leadership in the Western church today. Too often, leaders are expected to become either pseudo-CEOs who are measured by productivity, strategy and growth, or exhausted martyrs who sacrifice themselves endlessly for the sake of ministry.
Lynch challenges both models, arguing that neither reflects the true heart of the gospel. Instead, she offers a richer and more biblically faithful vision of leadership as friendship.
Rooted in God’s invitation to relationship through Christ, this book reimagines leadership in the church not as performance or status, but as a shared journey of love, trust and mutual care. Twenty years in the making, Chloe’s latest offering combines theological depth with lived experience, whilst carefully deconstructing harmful leadership cultures. This book points towards something healthier and more life-giving for churches and communities alike.
Accessible, thoughtful and deeply encouraging, The Glorious Risk is a timely book for church leaders, ministry students and anyone longing to see leadership shaped more closely by the example of Jesus.
The Integrity Fix: The simple yet surprising path to spiritual and societal renewal
by Jago Wynne
The world feels fractured. Broken leadership, compromised values and growing distrust have left many people disillusioned with public life, institutions and even the church itself. It can be tempting to look for quick fixes or to place the blame entirely on leaders “out there”.
In The Integrity Fix, Jago Wynne offers a different starting point. What if renewal begins with us?
Drawing inspiration from William Wilberforce and the Clapham Sect, and grounded in biblical wisdom, Jago explores how integrity in our personal lives can have far-reaching consequences for churches, communities and society as a whole. Honest about human weakness yet hopeful about the possibility of transformation, he argues that spiritual and societal renewal are deeply connected to everyday faithfulness, honesty and character.
Practical, hopeful and quietly challenging, this book is an invitation to pursue integrity not simply as a private virtue, but as something that shapes the world around us.
Christ Will Give You Rest: A Biblical Theology of the Sabbath
by Beau M. Landers
The latest addition to the New Studies in Biblical Theology series, Christ Will Give You Rest explores one of the most debated and often misunderstood themes in Scripture: the Sabbath.
Is Sabbath observance still required for Christians today? Opinions often range from indifference to strict observance, yet few discussions trace the theme carefully across the whole Bible. In this thoughtful and accessible study, Beau M. Landers follows the thread of Sabbath from its foundations in the Old Testament through to its fulfilment in Christ.
Landers explores the Sabbath as a sign of the Mosaic covenant, examining how it functioned within Israel’s life and how it pointed beyond itself to God’s sanctifying work among his people. Central to the book is Jesus’ declaration that he came not to abolish the law but to fulfil it, inviting readers to consider what true rest ultimately means in light of the gospel.
Combining careful biblical theology with pastoral clarity, Christ Will Give You Rest offers a rich and compelling contribution to an important conversation. Whether readers are approaching the subject for the first time or engaging longstanding theological questions, this latest NSBT volume provides a thoughtful guide to understanding Sabbath, worship and rest through the lens of Christ.
We’re excited to see these books out in the world and hope they encourage thoughtful conversations in churches, classrooms and communities in the months ahead.
