Mission and Vision

IVP publishes books that are true to the Bible and strengthen the church

IVP's mission is to publish Christian books that are true to the Bible and that communicate the gospel, develop discipleship and strengthen the church for its mission throughout the world.

According to our doctrinal basis, we wholeheartedly affirm the authority and teaching of the Bible to be the foundation for our lives and our publishing.

We aim to support both Christians and to engage those without faith, in their journey towards the cross of Christ.

In a culture where biblical knowledge is increasingly rare, we seek to publish resources that inform and inspire people to read and engage with the Bible and its teachings, to find salvation through Jesus Christ.

Our vision is a world where everyone is transformed by the Word of God (John 1:1). Our Publishing is part of how we work towards that vision.

Our editors work to nurture a high standard of thoughtful, interesting, biblically-driven writing, which probes contemporary issues and engages at the right level for the intended readership. We've been doing that since 1928, when the first booklets were published, and we've not stopped since. The result is a rich and mighty backlist with a very long tail and a forward publishing programme which rarely fails to allure the thoughtful reader.

We are the originating publisher for some classic series that have served the church for decades, and connect discipleship with serious theological thinking:

  • The Tyndale Old Testament Commentary - currently edited by David Firth, with Tremper Longman III as Consulting Editor
  • The Tyndale New Testament Commentary - currently edited by Eckhard Schnabel, with Nicholas Perrin as Consulting Editor
  • The Apollos Old Testament Commentary - currently edited by Gordon J. Wenham and David W. Baker
  • The New Studies in Biblical Theology series - currently edited by D. A. Carson
  • The 'Bible Speaks Today' series of expositions: New Testament, Old Testament, and Bible Themes
We are known for publishing dictionaries and other reference works, often in partnership with our American cousins, IVP-USA.

In the twenty-first century, this work innovates and extends from books into videos, apps and programmes.
