Apollos is IVP's Academic imprint - we publish monographs across biblical and theological disciplines, as well as a few series, notably The Apollos Old Testament Commentary (AOTC) and the New Studies in Biblical Theology (NSBT), edited by Don Carson.
This month, we are publishing the newest entry in the AOTC. Following our earlier publication of Paul Overland's masterful commentary on Proverbs, on the 20th of October we publish Elaine Phillips' careful and provocative study of Obadiah, Jonah and Micah. Packing three minor prophets into just over four hundred pages, Phillips shows us both what the text says and how it relates to contemporary issues, whilst engaging with recent critical scholarship. The new AOTC on Obadiah, Jonah and Micah is available to order now.
Earlier in 2022 we published 'From Prisoner to Prince', an NSBT on the Joseph Story in Biblical Theology by Samuel Emadi. The 60th NSBT is by Samuel's brother, Matthew, and considers the way that Psalm 110 is used in the Bible. 'The Royal Priest: Psalm 110 in Biblical Theology' is an encouraging an incisive study of the Psalm most quoted in the New Testament. Series editor D. A. Carson suggests that 'Dr Emadi's work will... enliven and enrich the sermons of pastors who plumb this book with the care it deserves'. You can order the latest NSBT volume now.
We also publish standalone monographs on the Apollos imprint - and our October release in this vein is a fresh voice in New Testament studies. Neil Martin's Galatians Reconsidered builds on his doctoral work (published in WUNT II) and adapts it to create a book that simultaneously pushes forward the scholarly conversation around Galatians and provides resources for pastors. As Jeannine K. Brown says, this is 'A fresh and important contribution to the conversation'. You can order your copy of Galatians Reconsidered now.
Finally, for October, we are proud to be publishing Smuggling Jesus Back into Church - a polemical but hope-filled guide from Andrew Fellows that explores how Jesus has been forgotten in the modern church – and how we can put him back at its heart. Dr. James Paul, director of English L'Abri and author of What on Earth is Heaven? is a fan:
I have already found myself wanting to give this book to others at least a dozen times. I truly think every seminary student, every church leader, indeed every Christian who is concerned to discover why the church has lost its countercultural impact, and what can be done about it, should read Smuggling Jesus Back into the Church.
