Guest Post: A New John Stott Podcast

Confession time. I’ve never heard a sermon by John Stott.

He may have written over 50 books which have inspired millions around the world, but I wouldn’t be able to tell you what he sounded like.

I’m told that when he preached at All Souls Langham Place, the building would be so full that people would sit on the stairs hanging off every word.

Billy Graham described him as “the most respected clergyman in the world” while Time magazine would rank him among the 100 most influential people in the world.

There’s no doubt over the impact he made through the words that left his mouth.

I won’t be the only one who’ve read the books but haven’t heard the man himself. Until now, those sermons have been locked in the archives of All Souls, but to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth they are being made available for the first time ever to be broadcast on Premier Christian Radio and distributed across the world through the podcast ‘The Bible for Today with John Stott’.

Every Sunday through 2021, a sermon of his will be aired at 17.30 and then made available for download via your chosen podcast provider or at premierchristianradio.com/johnstott.

Stott once said: “We must allow the Word of God to confront us, to disturb our security, to undermine our complacency and to overthrow our patterns of thought and behaviour.”

Words perhaps as relevant today as when they were first spoken.

At Premier we are passionate about enabling Christians to put their faith at the heart of daily life and to bring Christ to their communities.

We believe the sermons of John Stott can have a huge impact on Christians today, much like when they were first preached. We’re excited at the prospect of delivering them to new audiences through our radio station and through the podcast.

A TV reporter once asked Stott: “You’ve had a brilliant academic career; a first at Cambridge, Rector at 29, Chaplain to the Queen, what is your ambition now?” Stott replied: “To be more like Jesus”.

May that be the prayer of each of us, and may the teachings of Stott help us do that through 2021.

You can listen to Premier Christian Radio on DAB in the UK, on MW 1305, 1332, 1413 & 1566 in London and Surrey, Freeview 725, iPhone and Android apps as well as across the world at premierchristianradio.com. The podcast will be widely available - just search John Stott in your podcast provider (Apple, Google, Spotify etc).
