Here at IVP we aren't an Anglican publisher (though we are part of a wider Anglican mission organisation - we recently shared about how that's going) but we are a confessional publisher.
We get asked regularly about the tension between those two things - just as we are asked about tensions between being missionally-based and a for-profit publisher, and an evangelical/evangelistic publisher who is also engaged in academic conversations.
With GAFCON IV - have you been praying for it? - ongoing in Kigali, we've gathered some prayer points, and in this blog post we want to gather some ebooks to give away for free - as well as a massive discount on a major historical-theological book by Gerald Bray.
FREE EBOOKS - Understanding Anglicanism, and to pray for GAFCON IV
We wanted to highlight a few resources. Using the code 'GAFCONFREEBOOK', you can get a copy of the titles below, wherever you are (until the end of the conference on Friday 21st April!):
- God's Church for God's World - an edited collection of stories and perspectives from across English Anglican Evangelicalism, including an exploration of how the communion got to this tipping point.
- Powerful Leaders, by Marcus Honeysett - this is a probing and important book about how leaders wield power. Why not read it with your leadership team?
- The Gift, by Chris Green - this is a book on leadership in the church, by an experienced Anglican minister.
- Evangelical Truth, by John Stott - a classic primer on what it means to be evangelical.
- Accidental Anglican, by Todd Hunter - a book about discovering Anglicanism.
- Essentially One, by Jonathan Lamb - a book about unity, from someone who's spent a lifetime pursuing it, and is (incidentally) an Anglican).
- The Church, by John Stott - a short book about the Church Jesus is calling into being.
We also want to promote Gerald Bray's recent magesterial 'The History of Christianity in Britain and Ireland', a landmark publication. It's not just about Anglicanism, but it's an essential resource for understanding this corner of the church. Using the code 'BRAY1.99', you can save £39 on the book by buying it in ebook format.
