The IVP October 2020 Releases

We love Amy Orr-Ewing's Why Trust the Bible? - first published back in 2008, it's sold thousands of copies, and equipped and encouraged thinkers of all churchmanships and none. We are delighted to have collaborated with Amy to bring a second edition to publication. This completely revised and overhauled book keeps the same basic format - but takes into account advances in scholarship and cultural changes since the first edition. Amy's also added two brand new appendices, digging deeper into questions of homophobia and misogyny in the biblical. Whether you are looking for encouragement in your own walk with Jesus, or searching for the perfect gift for an open but sceptical friend, this second edition of Why Trust the Bible? is probably the book you are looking for. You can order your copy, in paperback or ebook, now, or click on the images below to read a couple of related blog posts.

Picking and Choosing?

The Gateway Seven series, which we've been publishing in partnership with the London Institute of Contemporary Christianity, are a selection of studies in seven books of the Bible that introduce us to the whole of Scripture, for the whole of life. The latest addition to the series is looking in to Ezekiel. Antony Billington’s six-session guide, with his astute mini-features, skilful questions, and timely notes, will help you explore how Ezekiel’s message of challenge and comfort speaks today, enabling you to live in the light of God’s presence, Monday through Sunday – whatever you're facing. You can get the paperback for the same prices as the ebook if you preorder now!

FIdelity to the Bible is a core value for us at IVP. That's why we publish commentaries and studies - the best known of which is probably the Bible Speaks Today series of studies in the Old Testament, New Testament, and Whole Bible Themes. This year saw the relaunch of the series - crowned with the NIV BST Bible. This month we publish five new editions of classic BSTs, updated and revised for a new generation of readers. Click on the links below to find out more - and, of course, preorder and save!

The Message of 1 Corinthians by David Prior
The Message of 2 Corinthians by Paul Barnett
The Message of Romans by John Stott
The Message of Philippians by Alec Motyer
The Message of Colossians and Philemon by Dick Lucas

There are just a few morevolumes to go in the BST New Testament series before we reach the Old Testament refresh, so be sure to add these to your library.

The latest volume in the Tyndale Old Testament Commentary Series also publishes this month. Tchavdar Hadjiev (Charlie, to his friends) has written a superb commentary on Joel and Amos. Joel's arresting imagery – blasting trumpet, darkened sun and marching hosts – has shaped the church's eschatological vision of a day of wrath. Amos's ringing indictments – callous oppression, heartless worship and self-seeking gain – have periodically awakened the conscience of God's people. Two thousand five hundred years later, those prophetic words still speak powerfully. You can preorder now, saving £2 on the paperback, and the ebook is also available.
