The IVP September 2019 Releases

As the summer turns the corner into Autumn and winter, here at IVP we're gearing up for Christmas and the promise of a New Year.

In February, the evangelical world will be pausing to mark the death of Michael Green, the great evangelist, teacher and author, who went to be with the Lord he loved at the age of 88 earlier this year. Published to coincide with his memorial service at Coventry cathedral, this beautifully produced hardback collects stories of Michael from those who knew, loved and served with him, as well as biographical sketches and reflections on his ministry career. We recently shared an extract from the reflection by his son, Tim, on our blog, and you can find out about the book and order it here.

The book of Ecclesiastes is popularly known for the adage 'there is a time for everything', which comes from 3:1. But there is so much more to this book than that wisdom, or the repeated refrain that 'everything is meaningless'. Knut Heim, Professor of Old Testament at Denver Seminary, shows us in his new Tyndale Old Testament Commentary on Ecclesiastes that this book is intellectually sophisticated, theologically rich, emotionally deep - and full of humour. Find out about this new commentary and order it here.

With Christmas being thrust upon us in shops already, you might like to consider slowing back down, and preparing for the celebration of Jesus' birth with 'Rejoice!', a new advent book from Christopher Wright and John Stott. With twenty-five days worth of reflection, teaching and inpsriation from Stott and Wright, this book offers a wonderful way to think less about the secular culture we live in, and focus more on rejoicing in the glorious birth of Jesus. Find out about this new book and order it here.

Our final release this month is the latest Bible Speaks Today Bible Themes volume, on Love, by Patrick Mitchel. There are few greater subjects in Christian theology than love, but it is a complex and challenging concept to understand, let alone live by. Tracing the theme through the whole Bible, this book helps us to grasp afresh the breadth, depth, scope and radical nature of the Bible's teaching on Love. Find out more and order the book here.
