Following our exciting June releases, we are delighted to be sharing about what we are publishing in August 2021. Traditionally, IVP hasn't published much in August, but as we've gone on we've found that it's actually quite a good time to make some noise about books! This month we publish a fresh, timely book on leadership from a veteran IVP author, and a new book in the NSBT series from an author new to IVP.
Chris Green is the Vicar of St James, Muswell Hill, and before that was Vice Principal at Oak Hill Theological College, where his teaching focused on leadership and adjacent topics. Chris has read widely in the field of leadership, both in the secular and Christian worlds, and struggled to find a book that brought together the best secular leadership insights with a fully-orbed biblical vision for ministry. So he wrote The Gift: How your leadership can serve your church. The title echoes a conviction of Chris's former boss, and fellow IVP author, Mike Ovey, that Christian leaders should be the best possible gift for the communities they serve. You can order your copy in paperback or ebook format now - and if you do so, you can get a preorder bonus direct from Chris in the form of a bonus chapter on abusive leadership.
The latest entry in the long-running and highly-regarded New Studies in Biblical Theology Series is Piercing Leviathan: God's defeat of evil in the book of Job, by Eric Ortlund. Eric is Lecturer in Old Testament and Biblical Hebrew at Oak Hill Theological College, where he is a regular and much loved preacher in chapel. In Piercing Leviathan, Eric examines both what the book teaches about the questions of evil and suffering, and also what we can learn from carefully examining God's speech, as this is one of those vital episodes in Scripture where we directly encounter the voice of God speaking to his servant and friend, Job. You can order your copy in paperback or ebook format now - and do keep an eye out for a hybrid launch event later this year.
Finally, published at the end of July, was the Lifebuilder study on Abraham, by Jack Kuhatschek. This little book has nine studies for individuals or groups, looking at the story of Abraham and considering how we can hear and respond to God's call. It's out now, nad you can order your copy in paperback now.
