In 605 Everyday Miracles, Chloe Swart shares remarkably ordinary stories of healing, faith, all orchestrated by the God who is unmistakeably at work in our everyday lives. She encourages all Christians to have eyes to see the unexpected ways that Jesus points us back to himself, through miracles both great and small. In this Q&A, Chloe reflects on the journey that led to her book, the scripture that inspired it, and her awe-inspiring hope for Christians everywhere.
1. Can you tell us a bit about your new book and what led you to write it?
After completing my PhD on the topic of healing miracles in Wales and collecting 605 healing stories, many people kept asking to read my thesis. So I decided to turn it into a book which is full to the brim of the healing stories I collected as well as some practical advice on how to heal today.
2. What is the central message or biblical truth you hope readers will take away?
That we as Christians are called to heal the sick as a part of our mission, and everyday lives. We don’t need to wait for a healing service or person ‘more qualified’ but Jesus has equipped us and given us his power and authority to heal today.
3. Was there a particular passage of Scripture or moment in your walk with God that sparked this book?
The story of Peter and John in Acts 3 just shows us how to heal in such a normal but powerful way.
4. How do you hope this book will speak into the current cultural or spiritual climate?
We are in a season of seeing many people hungry to know more about Jesus, interested in the Bible and worship, especially amongst gen Z. I hope this book will encourage and excite Christians that healing is another tool in their missional toolbox to reveal to people Jesus’ love for them.
5. Who do you hope will pick this book up - and how do you hope it will encourage or challenge them?
I hope the average everyday Christian will pick up this book and realize that they are called and equipped to pray for their friends around them. There is also some helpful info for Church leaders in there about creating a culture of healing in their churches which came out of my PhD research.
6. Did you face any spiritual or practical challenges while writing? How did you navigate them?
It’s always tricky writing about healing and striking the balance between faith-building encouragement, challenge and being sensitive to the fact that we still live in a fallen and sinful world where not every single person gets healed.
A practical challenge was finishing the edits with a three-week-old baby napping on me!
Healing and miracles are not reserved for grandiose or special moments, but rather God reveals His restorative power and grace in ordinary moments, both in Scripture and in our lives today. 605 Everyday Miracles warmly invites you to pray boldly, expect great things from God, and step into the faith-filled life that Jesus modelled.
