Changes to the IVP Team - a short update

At IVP we mostly like to share news about our books, but from time to time we have things to share that are a bit different.

It’s a time of some change at IVP, but also some continuity, as our Publishing Director, Caleb Woodbridge, has moved on.

Caleb came to IVP in late 2019, and has wisely shepherded our team and publishing program through the unexpectedly complex years of 2020, 2021, and 2022. He’s leaving on good terms, and we are so grateful for what he’s brought to the team and to the role. Here’s what Caleb had to say:

While I’ve found being Publishing Director often exciting and satisfying, and I have enjoyed working with the IVP team and other colleagues, I have also found it increasingly challenging to bring to it the full focus and energy the role demands. So for the good of IVP and for the sake of my own health and family, I’ve decided it is best to move on, give myself more time for rest and recovery, and seek new opportunities.

Sue Halliday, Chair of the IVP Publishing Board, said:

We on the Board are so grateful for Caleb’s calm and wise service to IVP in these strange times – and whilst we are sad to see him go, we pray God’s best for him as he moves on. Caleb has built on the shoulders of giants at IVP, and he’s strengthened the strategic foundations whilst also setting up a good supply of exciting books for the next 18 months or so and on into the future.

As for continuity we’ve made some minimal changes to our editorial team to ensure that all of Caleb’s projects and responsibilities are covered. In the short term, Wendy Grisham, having signed the UCCF Doctrinal Basis of Faith, will serve as Acting IVP Publishing Director, alongside her role as Group Publishing Director. Wendy says:

A real highlight of my time working with Caleb has been seeing him strengthen his team and champion IVP within the wider SPCK Group. I wish him the best as he moves on, and am grateful to him for his cooperation and grace in the transition. With the IVP Publishing Board, our excellent authors and much-valued partners, as well as our strong Editorial team, I’m excited to see what God will do with IVP in the coming years.

Thomas Creedy, IVP Senior Commissioning Editor, is stepping up into a new full time role as IVP Editorial Director – continuing to look after IVP’s series publishing and the Apollos imprint, but also taking on some of the Publishing Director’s projects and responsibilities. Tom says:

I joined the IVP editorial team when Caleb started, and so it’s personally quite poignant to be saying goodbye, if only professionally! I’ll be ever-grateful for Caleb’s mentorship and management – not least through such years of change. Since I was a theology student at Nottingham, and involved in CU leadership there and at school before, I’ve always appreciated IVP’s publishing, and being involved in continuing to shape it going forward is a great honour.

The IVP team would value your prayers as we adjust to a slightly different team arrangement, and think and pray about the future.
