Announcing a New Editor for the Apollos Old Testament Commentary

We are delighted to announce a new co-editor for our high-level Old Testament commentary series, the Apollos Old Testament Commentary. Read on to find out more.

Since the publication of the first volumes in 2002, the Apollos Old Testament commentary has sought to take with equal seriousness the divine and human aspects of Scripture. It expounds the books of the Old Testament in a scholarly manner accessible to non-experts, and shows the relevance of the Old Testament to modern readers. Written by an international team of scholars, the commentaries are intended primarily to serve the needs of those who preach from the Old Testament. They are equally suitable for use by scholars and all serious students of the Bible.

Since the series inception, Gordon J. Wenham and David W. Baker have ably served as series editors. Recently, Wenham's health and retirement have meant the time has come to find a new co-editor, though we will always be grateful for his pioneering service, prayerful editing, and superb scholarship on this and so many other projects.

We are delighted to announce that Dr. Beth M. Stovell, Professor of Old Testament and Chair of General Theological Studies at Ambrose Seminary of Ambrose University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. We interviewed Beth with seven questions, so you can get to know her and pray for, but here's what she had to say about joining the AOTC Editorial team:

"I am so honoured to come into this role. The AOTC has been excellently run by Gordon Wenham and David Baker for over 20 years. I want to honour what has come before, while offering my unique skills and experience as the series continues. I am aware of the great responsibility and the great joy of offering my service in this way. I am proud to work with the well-respected scholars who are the authors of the AOTC series and excited to work closely with David as the series progresses. David and I have already built a collaborative rapport that I know will benefit the series."

Thomas Creedy, Editorial Director said:

"Having known Beth for more than a decade, and appreciated her careful work on the Old Testament and wider biblical studies, she's a fantastic addition to the AOTC team, and a scholar who embodies the careful exegesis and thoughtful biblical theology the series is known for. I'm excited to see her interact alongside David with the manuscripts in the pipeline, and to see her work on David's Genesis contribution to the series. We at IVP/Apollos are so grateful to David and Gordon for their pioneering and faithful stewardship of the AOTC to date, and pray for God's continued blessing on the work of the series."

We were also delighted to get the following words of encouragement from some scholarly friends:

The Apollos Commentary Series is an essential reference for serious study of the Bible. I am so pleased to hear that Beth Stovell will be joining David Baker as the series’s editor. Beth brings her energy, passion, deep biblical knowledge, and wisdom to this important project. I have profited from the volumes already published and I look forward to the ones to be published in the future.
