This comprehensive study of the biblical depth of the intercessory prayers of the Messiah, and of the biblical-theological theme of the Messiah as intercessor. This careful examination of these vital biblical themes includes particularly detailed portraits of key canonical figures such as Moses, Aaron, Elijah and King Hezekiah.

Working not only from the Old to the New Testament, but also from the New Testament to the Old Testament, Michael Widmer 'reads backwards' from the standpoint of the full revelation of God in and through the life, death and resurrection of Christ. The study concludes with a careful of examination of Christ's intercessory work in the Gospels of Luke and JOhn, and a close reading of Hebrews. Widmer offers a close canonical reading, within an evangelical rule of faith, and consistently relates his findings to the life and conduct of the church.
Michael Widmer is a Lecturer in Biblical Studies at the evangelical Theological Seminar St. Chrischona (TSC), Basel, Switzerland. He is the author of a number of books and articles about biblical prayer, and served for fifteen years at the Hokkaido Bible Institute (HBI), Sapporo in Japan, working with OMF International. He holds a PhD from the University of Durham, and a BA and MTh from London School of Theology.
